A Reminder That Trusting Everything to Cloud Storage Can Screw You Over

Image
So much of our digital lives now exist solely in the cloud. Companies like Apple, Google, and Microsoft make it all too easy to upload our important files to cloud storage from the moment we set up our devices. On one hand, that's a good thing: If something happens to your phone, tablet, or laptop, that doesn't mean you lose all your messages, photos, and documents—assuming all that info is properly backed up to the cloud. When you get your device fixed or replaced, you can sign back into your account and pull all that data down from the cloud without losing anything in the transition. In fact, I suspect that our collective data has never been more secured than it is today, thanks to the abundance and simplicity of cloud storage. However, that's not to say that our backup situation is perfect—far from it. Relying solely on the cloud for data storage can have disastrous consequences. Google recently lost up to six months' worth of data for some Drive users You can see

The Good and the Bad of the 800-Gram Fruit and Vegetable Challenge

Image
Diet “challenges” are, by their nature, strict and not sustainable. (That’s what makes them challenges.) They usually demand you restrict your food choices in some way, such as cutting out entire food groups. But what if there was a diet challenge that just wanted you to eat more vegetables? That’s the idea behind the 800-gram challenge.  What is the 800-gram challenge?  The basic idea is simple: You eat 800 grams of fruits and/or vegetables each day. That’s it, that’s the challenge.  Surely it can’t be that simple! you might object. Well, you’re right. There is an official website for the challenge , and if you sign up for the newsletter, you’ll get a free guide telling you the rules for the challenge. This includes a big list of “Yes they count!” foods and a smaller list of “No, they don’t count” foods. (You can also view those lists at the main website.) Corn and potatoes count. Raisins, juices, and nuts do not. It also includes a note that the hashtag #800gChallenge is trademark

Why Alka-Seltzer Is a Cleaning Secret Weapon

Image
It has probably seen you through indigestion and hangovers, but Alka-Seltzer can do more than settle your stomach: It can also help clean your home. In addition to aspirin, two of its other main ingredients are cleaning powerhouses: Sodium bicarbonate (better known as baking soda ) and citric acid —which works like white vinegar or lemon juice, only stronger.
